'Rehabilitation of Cleft patients in India' is one of the Health care intervention projects at Hyderabad (Telangana), supported by IWF. Please find the attached presentation on Rehabilitation of Cleft patients in India.
Briefly 35000 new born cleft patients are added every year in India.
Moreover, Cleft deformities predominantly affect lower socio-economic strata who can not afford the cost of surgery. Hence, most of the patients carry the burden of deformity life long. Cleft patients also face risk of being abandoned at birth and mainly face severe speech, hearing, dental and life threatening respiratory/ cardiac issues.
Though genetic factor also plays important role in this deformity, patients can be easily treated and cured with surgery which cost about Rs. 35000/- per patient. Surgery can rehabilitate patients mentally/socially and integrate them into functioning members of the society.
