Smartphone App to Fight Pollution

Introduction:

It remains a great irony that a large number of people who suffer most from pollution are the ones that are contributing to it. What if we could engage a large number of people through means like a smartphone app and mobilize them to fight pollution?

We have many examples of such crowd collaboration resulting in something great. Wikipedia is most prominent example that a big impact can be achieved if common people were mobilized in right way.

There is a really strong case for channeling the community energy to address most pressing problems of today’s world, like air pollution. Often times channeling community energy online does not go beyond launching online petition. We want to make an attempt to go way beyond that and actually build a platform for users to make the change happen. This platform will enable users to educate themselves, spread awareness, undertake positive actions and over a course of time assess the impact and reflect.

Goal:
  • Build a smartphone app that will engage large number of users and will guide them to undertake small air pollution reducing actions in their individual capacity or a small team capacity.

  • Monitor impact of through data generated within the app.
